FINDING MY CALLING

No. I am not going to talk about my calling in life to be a photographer.

This is what I’m talking about…

Sometimes, I’ll be sitting at my desk plugging away and all of a sudden I’ll tune in to the distinct song of a cardinal. It’s like it’s calling me to the window. You see, I tend to believe cardinals represent angels, a sign from above that I’m being sent some love. Red cardinals remind me of my mother because she had a colorful, bold personality. Plus, she wore a lot of red hats as Queen Mum in her Red Hat group. And, when she was 75, we bought her a car – her first ever brand new car -- and all they had on the lot was red.

My daughter and I drove that car up until June of 2019. We fondly called it the Grammobile. When we finally sold it, it was a 16-year-old gem of a car with a little over 37,000 miles on it. When I bought my next car, I gravitated toward red in honor of the Grammobile.

I think my mother would be happy that I think of her every time I see a red cardinal. They’re beautiful, vibrant, and distinct. They stand out, especially against a snowy background. And, they sing like nobody’s listening. I hope and pray they keep calling me to my window.
