I HAD NO IDEA I COULD DO THIS

Wowza! This. Swirls, spirals, twists and turns. Colors blending, bleeding, bending, creating magical arrays of splendor. Welcome to light painting. I had heard of it and been mesmerized by the photos I had seen. But, to think I could create something like this? Just wow.  All thanks to Seven Hills Camera Club, which I joined in January. They have pushed me way out of my cushy comfort zone.

Want to know how the magic happens? Take a peek behind the scenes? For each of these photos, a person was standing there waving a yard stick or a hula hoop that had lights attached to it. Because they are long exposure pix, the person doesn’t show up in the image. It really is like magic. In the pix with the tower visible, the person also had a flashlight that he was shining on the tower. I put my shutter speed on bulb and had fun experimenting with the length of exposure.

It’s scary, but fun, to try new things. And it’s even better when you’re learning from people who don’t make you feel stupid. For some reason, I’m usually the one who has technical issues… the remote shutter isn’t working, my camera won’t do this, or that… bless the 7HCC members who are so patient and helpful. Surround yourself with kind people who will help you learn… and if you’re on the other side of the table with the expertise, be the kind person who will help others learn from their mistakes. Nobody wants to feel stupid.
