WHAT'S IN YOUR REFLECTION?

Ah, that time of year is here. The time of reflection. 2019. What was good? What was not so good?

Do you set goals each year, then evaluate at year’s end to see if those goals were met? What a great idea. So ambitious. Good for you.

I don’t do that. I don’t make resolutions. I don’t go on diets.

I go on journeys. I consciously decide to exercise more, which leads to eating less. Same with New Year’s. I consciously decide to do more of this, which leads to doing less of that.

Part of the focus is on what I accomplish along the way. Part of it is on what I overcome.

Reflecting is a good thing, for sure. Do you like what you see staring back at you? If not, change is probably the best route. Be intentional. Find purpose. But, do not fall into analysis paralysis. Celebrate the good things and let go of the bad. I guess it’s like self-awareness paving the way to self-fulfillment.

Okay, I gotta run. My reflection is giving me the stink eye, that look that’s saying, “Hey, get off the computer and go do something. Move. Get off your butt. Create a new comfort zone. Make 2020 a year of slap-happy surprises.”

To that I say, “Amen!”

“The rearview mirror is quite valuable, but keep your main focus on the road ahead.”
