SEE GOOD. BE GOOD. DO GOOD.

Giving Tuesday brings about feelings of goodness. One of my mantras in life has always been, “See good. Be good. Do good.” Before I go on, though, I have to mention that focusing on “good” brings me back to my Catholic grammar school days at St. Monica’s in Methuen, MA. It was there that I learned, “Good, better, best, never let it rest, until your good becomes better, and your better becomes best.” Just a fun sidebar.

Now, back to goodness. Let’s break this down…

SEE GOOD

See good isn’t just about seeing the beauty that surrounds you, though that is definitely part of it. What it really means is seeing the good in people. As I mentioned in my 11/19/19 post, focus on intention vs. action. Sometimes, people can be rough around the edges, a little abrupt. You don’t know what’s going on in their lives, their minds. Try to see beyond what’s happening. Most of the time, their heart is in the right place. See good also means seeing the good in a situation. Now given, some situations are just downright horrible and there is no way to find anything good about it. I get that. But in most cases, you can find a bright side, or a silver lining. Most cases.

BE GOOD

Be good is all about who you are at the core. Find what you love and be the best version of yourself by doing that one thing. And don’t just do it, be good at it. Commit yourself to being a lifelong learner in that area. There’s always something new to learn. On top of that, at the core, be a good person. As I always say to my daughter, it’s nice to be nice.

DO GOOD

No matter how much you make, how much you have, how much you know, you can always help someone less fortunate than you. If you can’t donate money, you can donate time. If you don’t have lots of time, you can donate your talent. There are always ways to help others, even in small ways. Because when lots of people give a little, there’s a collective wave of goodness that permeates the community. When you do good, it feels good.

So, I guess that’s the fourth good… See good, be good, do good and FEEL good. That sounds good to me!
